    Description

Wow, very early rare French Fortune Teller lady doll holding a silver tray of tiny antique items.   I believe her head is an early Simon Halbig bisque head doll with dark glass eyes and antique handmade mohair wig.  She has a tall velvet hat with beaded tassel and dangle earrings. Her bisque is nicely painted, closed mouth, with no chips, cracks, or damage. Her body is early hand carved lower arms and fingers with cloth covered lady body & hand sewn boots with laces and beads.  Eloquently dressed in layers of lace, netting, velvet sleeves and tall hat with embroidered, beaded, and metallic lace trim.  Her clothing shows some wear to her outer netted skirt, some wear to her cloth covered body and paper fortunes have torn edges and very fragile.
I believe these fortune teller dolls were individually made by women in 1860's on. Paper fortunes were hand written and cut, folded, and sewn together for the dolls skirt. I believe she dates around 1880-90.  Hand written ink fortunes are hidden under her dress with lace skirt over the top.
Ladies would take turns opening up a fortune from under the skirt, what conversations they must have had!
This French Fortune Teller carries an antique metal tray marked Germany, has set of old folded playing cards, antique metal & wood Genie bottle with cork, a tiny metal book locket frame with 4/old photos, tiny hand mirror, antique glass potion bottle suspended on chain, and carved mother of pearl moon/star pendant.  She is 9" as a doll with tall hat she is 12" and on wooden stand she is 15". I received her on the wood stand but with the fragile nature of her paper skirt, I use the antique metal stand that goes around her tiny waist behind her tray, both stands are included with all her accessories.
Down sizing my collection, first time listed from my private collection. Don't miss out on a chance to purchase this special rarely seen Fortune Teller Doll made for the French market.  A great piece of history!
