    Description

    Circa 1867.
    One of the earliest examples of the “Waltzing Steiner” with exceptionally beautiful and elegant features combined with mechanical functions.
    The bisque head features early pale bisque with delicate features and stunning early cobalt blue spiral-threaded paperweight eyes.
    The bisque head is exceptional and the eyes are mesmerizing!
    She features beautiful bisque arms which were used on the highest quality French Poupee fashion dolls of the period.  The bisque arms are beautiful!
    When wound, she glides forward and in circles, while she raises and lowers her arms.
    She is dressed exceptionally beautifully and is ready to display in the most advanced collection!

    Description:
    14” So-Called “Waltzing Steiner,” signed “J. Steiner,” circa 1867, featuring an early and beautiful bisque shoulder head with pale bisque and delicate decoration to the bisque, early cobalt blue spiral threaded paperweight eyes, very finely painted upper and lower eyelashes, very finely painted arched eyebrows, accented nostrils, open mouth with upper teeth, shaded and accented lips, finely blushed cheeks, mohair wig with partially braided coiffure over cork pate, carton torso with full length carton skirt which encloses the early version of the deposed mechanism with some wooden parts, and hidden wheeled base.
    She has beautiful bisque arms similar to the finest French Poupee Fashion dolls of the same 1860’s period.
    The bisque arms are very detailed molded detail in the insides of the palms of the hands and beautiful painted tinting to the fingernails, back of the hands, and the elbows.
    When wound and the on/off lever is moved, she glides forward and in circles, while raising and lowering her arms.
    She is dressed beautifully and makes for a museum-quality presentation.
    Her outfit is amazing with fine couturier detail and trimmed with delicate lace.
    Her antique French poupee bonnet is exceptional and completes her ensemble perfectly.
    We have included a couple of close-up photos of the poupee bonnet which is of exceptional couturier quality with much detail.

    Second, when you look underneath, you realize that it is also a functioning automaton and has the J. Steiner mark on the carton torso.
    She has been remarkably preserved for approximately 153 years!
    Can you imagine some little girl being treated with this fine play toy around 1867?

    We have lighted and blacklighted the bisque head and there is no damage and no repairs to the bisque head.
    The bisque arms are perfect with no damage and no repairs.
    The automaton functions well!
    The costume materials are antique and in overall excellent museum-quality condition.
    The fashion bonnet is exceptional and of the finest quality.
